FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has spoken about Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus' exit from the UEFA Champions League quarter-final by hailing the level of competition on display in the competition.

Juventus suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Ajax’s young guns in Turin, as the Dutch side bounced back from Ronaldo’s opener to progress to the semi-final of the continental competition.

As the Portuguese hitman exited the tournament, Lionel Messi came up with a mesmerising performance to knock Manchester United out of the Champions League in quite some style.

After the game, Messi was told Ronaldo and Juventus, who could have faced Barcelona in the final, were no longer in the tournament.

As revealed by Metro, the Argentinean magician replied, "That tells you everything [about the competition]. Any team is complicated, be it Liverpool or Porto [who Barcelona will face in the last four]. There are those who deserve, the best, and everything is going to be complicated."

After drawing the first leg in the Netherlands 1-1, Juventus went ahead in the second leg courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo. Donny van de Beek fired Ajax level just after the half hour mark before club captain and 19-year-old sensation Matthijs de Ligt headed the away side in front in the second half.

Messi and co. meanwhile, now await who they will face in the Champions League semi-final between Liverpool and FC Porto. Ajax will take on the winner between Tottenham and Manchester City in the last four.
