Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted that Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is not an option for them to sign in the summer, but refused to be drawn into speculation regarding the signature of Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Griezmann was expected to join Barcelona at the start of this season, but the Frenchman chose to renew his deal with Atletico instead, leaving the Spanish champions disgruntled with how he handled the situation.

With rumours suggesting that Barcelona are back in the fray for the French forward, Bartomeu has confirmed that they are not looking to make another attempt to sign the player.

"[Griezmann] is an Atletico Madrid player and he has a contract [with them]," the Barcelona president told TVE, according to Goal. "I like that the great players are in Spain because he gives value to LaLiga Santander [which helps], for example, to get sponsors.

"If Griezmann wanted to come, he would have to talk to the coaches, but his name is not on the table. There is a lot of speculation in the press, but Griezmann is not on the table and he has not called Barcelona."

The Barcelona president was not as forthcoming regarding Ajax defender De Ligt, saying that he will still need to talk to the coaches to see if they want him.

"The signing of De Jong we wanted to do in the summer, but there was a lot of pressure, other teams wanted him and we advanced it," Bartomeu said. "With Ajax there is a very good relationship. With De Ligt, I do not know what will happen. It seems he will be on the market and when we talk to the coaches we will see if we're in for him or not.”

It remains to be seen who the Spanish champions will sign in the summer, considering Real Madrid is certainly set for a massive overhaul before the start of the new season.
