In the wake of Manchester United's 1-0 defeat to Barcelona at Old Trafford in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, one player received a lot of hatred from the home fans for his performance, Ashley Young.
The winger-turned-full-back was deployed on the right and no matter how much he tried, none of his crosses were convincing enough to help United forwards to make something out of it.
To highlight United’s failure in front of goal on Wednesday, it was the first time since 2009 that they had failed to register a shot on target during a Champions League home game.
Moreover, Young attempted 11 crosses during the game against Barca but not a single one of them found a United player. According to Opta’s statistics, Young also lost possession on an unbelievable 30 occasions at Old Trafford.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already looking for a right-back in the upcoming summer transfer window, fans on social media have made it totally clear that Ashley Young needs to be replaced anyhow after this season or maybe, even before.
Fans took to Twitter and blasted Young as Manchester United fell to defeat against Barcelona. Here are some of the best tweets from the night....
We need to sell Ashley Young at the end of the season. He is finished.— The Crazy Smurf (@TheToluAdeyi) April 10, 2019
I would struggle to convince a sunday league manager to sign up Ashley Young. I mean it. UNLESS he wanted to sell tickets for home games— TUNGYREAN 🐉 (@TundayB) April 10, 2019
Can we please sell ashley young midway through the match @ManUtd ?— rishabh khanna (@rishabhkhanna23) April 10, 2019
Ashley Young is stealing a living at United. He seriously can't cross the ball. We haven't, until this point, made our momentum in the game count. #MUFC— (رضوان) Rizwan (@RizwanFarooq10) April 10, 2019

1 of my happiest days as a MUFC fan will be seeing the phrase "Ashley Young has been sold."— Mike Meade (@poopbasket83) April 10, 2019

United needs to make plans for Ashley Young’s replacement in the summer. Fred has a lot to do to get back in shape judging from tonight’s performance. #MUFCBarça— Oforji Osborn C. (@Osborn_Creation) April 10, 2019
Ashley Young is shit. Why aren’t we binning him off this summer? #MUFCBarca— Christopher Burrows (@iamcburrows) April 10, 2019
We've not been THAT bad but Ashley Young is diabolical. Absolute shit. Lord have mercy we need a new RB this summer. And a new CB, and CDM, and RW, and... well.. a whole new squad would be nice tbh. Keep 4 or 5 players, bin the rest of them.— Kyra🏳️🌈 (@kyraaah) April 10, 2019
76,000 people could see it in the stadium, millions of fans around the world can see it. Ashley Young is finished at this level and is seriously holding us back. Please, please. Drop him. @ManUtd— The Man Utd Way (@TheManUtdWay) April 10, 2019

David de Gea without hands is more useful than Ashley Young.— Red Devil Bible (@RedDevilBible) April 10, 2019
Seen a few criticise Pogba tonight. I saw something different in the stadium. Did lots of unselfish work and looked busy. Fred and McTominay were also good. However, Rashford looked unfit and off the pace. Ashley Young can't be a starter next year. No way. Sorry Ash. #MUFC— Rob Blanchette (@_Rob_B) April 10, 2019
Someone find the stat on how many times Ashley Young has lost the ball tonight. If it’s below 1000, I’ll be shocked.— Scott Saunders (@_scottsaunders) April 10, 2019
