The clock is winding down quickly ahead of the release of FIFA 20 this autumn, with the popular franchise now one of the most eagerly anticipated releases in the gaming calendar.

Following on from the success of FIFA 19, EA Sports will undoubtedly be expecting big things as they prepare to unleash the 27th instalment of the game. But, for now, a few questions remain: when the game will be released? What new features we can expect to see? And who will take the coveted spot on the cover of the game?

Well, here at 90min, we thought we'd cobble together what we already know about the game and when you can expect to find out official details of release.

FIFA 20 Release Date

EA Sports have again followed their tried and tested formula of releasing the game on the final Friday of September. That means the game will come out on general sale on Friday 27 September, although super keen gamers can get their hands on a copy earlier than most.

Should you pre-order the Champions or Ultimate editions of the game, you can download, receive and play FIFA 20 three days in advance on Tuesday 24 September.

Those of you who are really, really, REALLY into your gaming are probably either a member of EA Access or Origin Access, and those gamers will be able to get a copy on Thursday 19 September.

A demo will be available on 12 September - Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Club America, Los Angeles FC, Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Roma and Vissel Kobe will be the playable teams.

FIFA 20 Price

ePremier League Finals 2019

As the years go on, video games prices have spiralled out of control somewhat. You can even purchase in-game content to improve your user experience, but before you do that, you'll likely have to fork out a minimum of £50 to pick up this year's edition.

You can pick up the Standard edition for £49.99 from Amazon, while the Champions version comes in at £69.99. For the Ultimate edition, head over to EA's website and click through to the relevant version, and you'll see it sets you back a cool £89.99.

FIFA 20 New Features

EA are always looking for ways to advance and modernise their games, and this year's release will be no different.

In recent years, we've seen the incorporation of goal-line technology for gameplay and a whole host of bumper Ultimate Team offers, packs and tournaments to keep things refreshed and moving forward.

For all you FIFA Street lovers out there, you're in luck!

A new game mode called Volta Football has been announced. You can take it to the streets in venues all over the world. You can read more about it here.

FIFA 20 Consoles

As expected, FIFA 20 will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC Windows. The FUT App is also available for Android and iOS.

FIFA 20 Cover Stars

One of the most prestigious honours any modern footballer can receive is being slapped on the front cover of FIFA.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo held the honour for many years, before FIFA 19 saw the introduction of Neymar, Kevin De Bruyne and Paulo Dybala as an exciting new trio.

However, those three have been ditched for a selection of brand new stars, each dominating the cover of their respective version of the game.

If you plug for the Standard Edition, you'll get Eden Hazard pointing at the Real Madrid badge. If you fancy the Champions Edition, you'll get Champions League winner Virgil van Dijk looking all cool and stuff.

But if you fork out the wonga for the Ultimate Edition, you'll get one of the greatest players ever in Zinedine Zidane. Decisions, decisions, ey?

FIFA 20 Ratings

The yearly FIFA question usually revolves around two little known players: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But which legend has been given the accolade of being the highest rated player in this year's FIFA?

It's Messi. He sits pretty on 94, with Ronaldo on 93 and Neymar completing the top three on 92. Hazard, De Bruyne, Jan Oblak (all 91), Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Luka Modric and Marc-Andre ter Stegen (all 90) complete the top ten.

A fair few legends have been confirmed to be included in the game. Zidane, Andrea Pirlo, Didier Drogba, Ian Wright and Ronald Koeman are just a few former players who will feature in the upcoming release.

With so much more information still to be released, it's an exciting time to be a FIFA player. The questions also beckons - who will the next overpowered generation of players be?

There will be only one way to find out..
