Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet has indicated that although Lionel Messi is the best footballer on the planet and France won the World Cup, Luka Modric was equally entitled to win the Ballon d'Or this year.

The former Sevilla star then went on to hail Modric's performances and achievements on the domestic front as well as for his country Croatia at the World Cup in Russia.

As reported by Marca, while speaking to Radio Barcelona, Lenglet started by specifying, "As a footballer, there is no better player than Leo Messi, but this year Modric and some French players also deserved also a prize."

Revealing his own take on Modric winning, the 23-year-old defender continued, "If you take the year into account, I understand Ballon d'Or award a little more, but if you have to choose the best player, for me, there is no doubt."

Lenglet then highlighted Modric's achievements during the course of the full last season with Real Madrid and the summer with Croatia as he concluded, "The French had an incredible World Cup, but Modric reached the World Cup final and won the Champions League. He is a great player and I think he also deserves the Ballon d'Or."

The French defender has made eight appearances for Barcelona this season as they fight to reclaim their La Liga title with Lenglet's former team Sevilla just one point behind the Catalan giants in the league table.
