In what is an unexpected twist in the recent series of events at the club, Mohun Bagan are reportedly set to announce a new primary sponsor next week.

The announcement of the sponsor is expected to take place on 29th of July, which is celebrated as 'Mohun Bagan Day'.

The sponsor, as reported by Goal India, is ready to invest in the region of 15 crore rupees, which incidentally is also the franchise fee needed to be paid to join the Indian Super League. That potentially opens the door for the club to join the ISL if bidding is opened.

On 16th July, amid huge protests from fans, club officials met at a five-star hotel in Kolkata to fill member posts of the club administration. Among other things that were discussed, the name of the sponsor was reportedly finalised in the meeting.

It remains to be seen however, if the club will be able to sort out issues like the selection of their base, in case the bidding process for the ISL opens. If Football Sports Development Limited decide not to do away with the 'one city, one team' rule, the club will likely have to choose a venue outside Kolkata.

Meanwhile, the secretary of Mohun Bagan, Swapan Banerjee, said, "East Bengal cannot play ISL, without Mohun Bagan's support. Only if we support then East Bengal can play ISL. Both teams will play the ISL together or both won't."

When asked about those comments, East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar chose not to react, saying, "I do not wish to comment on his statements. It is prudent not to reply to such comments."

Sarkar had himself earlier indicated that the club are keen on the ISL, saying, "if ISL decides to reopen bidding, East Bengal will definitely submit a bid."
