India fought off a determined Kenya to seal a 3-0 win in a match that was affected by rain as both teams had to battle the conditions. Captain Sunil Chhetri notched two goals in what was his 100th match for the country while his strike partner Jeje Lalpekhlua scored the other.

The win meant that the Blue Tigers strengthened their position at the top of the table with two wins from two matches to accumulate six points while Kenya remain in second position with three points.

The match kicked off amidst heavy showers as Chhetri's call to fans was answered by the people of Mumbai, as the Mumbai Football Arena was sold out. In the first half, the only clearcut opportunity fell to the Indian captain when his attempted lob went over the goal.

The rain eased off in the second half and that allowed both teams to play some more football as the visitors went close twice, with Ochieng and Kibwage both shooting wide of target after finding themselves one on one with Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.

Soon after, the home side went close a couple of times, with Chhetri mistiming his volley, while just a little while later, Pronay Halder's curling long-ranger was well saved by Matasi.

Just after that, the Indians were awarded a penalty with the skipper adjudged to have been fouled. He stepped up and converted the spot-kick, despite Matasi getting a good hand to it.

Immediately after, Jeje latched on to a loose ball in the box and latched a volley into the roof of the net to make it 2-0.

Some end-to-end action ensued but Stephen Constantine's men held firm at the back. With time running out, the captain again scored, latching on to a through ball before chipping the goalkeeper beautifully to seal the scoreline.
