The biggest derby in Indian football is all set to add another chapter to its illustrious history as East Bengal host Mohun Bagan at the historic Salt Lake Stadium today.

On paper, East Bengal started the tournament with the strongest XI. The Reds and Golds haven't won the I-League title yet, and the desperation to end the drought couldn't have been any clearer. However, they quite couldn't manage the best of starts.

After drawing the opening fixture against defending champions Aizawl, they were handed a bitter 1-0 defeat by eternal rivals, Mohun Bagan. Today, it's not just about getting all three points, it's also about bragging rights.

Mohun Bagan, on the other hand, started the season in fine fashion. They weren't playing the best brand of football, but they surely were getting the results. However, things have only gone downhill since their win against East Bengal, last month. They have only managed to get two wins in their last seven encounters.

Head coach, Sanjoy Sen, has resigned and his assistant, Sankar Lal Chakraborty, has taken over. For Mohun Bagan, the most difficult task will be to play without their star man, Sony Norde. The player couldn't be fit for the tie and will be released on Monday due to his injury worsening.

Bagan supporters will honour their favourite by wearing 20,000 Sony Norde masks. Today, it's not just about just three points; for East Bengal, it's about vengeance, for Bagan, it's about giving a proper send-off to one of their most illustrious stars in recent years. An exciting Sunday afternoon derby awaits.

Probable XI:

East Bengal: Barreto; Prakash, Eduardo, Arnab, Salam; Bazie, Cavin; Ralte, Al-Amna, Yusa; Dudu;

Prediction: We predict a 2-1 win for the hosts, East Bengal.
