Chelsea are set to rival Real Madrid for the signing of Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, according to the Mirror.
Diego Costa's long term future at the club remains uncertain despite returning to the Blues' starting team, and Antonio Conte's side are looking towards other options should Costa reiterate his desire to leave during the summer.
Real Madrid have been linked with a £75m swoop for City striker Aguero, who was recently benched for teenager Gabriel Jesus during the 4-0 win over West Ham. The Argentina international is reportedly not content to play as second choice to Jesus.
Should Aguero wish to end his career at the Etihad next summer then Chelsea would be interested in securing his signature. His arrival could coincide with Costa's departure, with the Spaniard recently being involved in a training ground bust-up and the Stamford Bridge club said to be exploring their attacking options for next season.
Aguero is concerned Jesus' arrival will threaten his current status as City's first choice striker, and he has made it clear to his advisors that he will not be content to play as an understudy to the Brazilian wonderkid. The 28-year-old currently has a contract at the Etihad which is due to run out in 2020, recently signing a one-year extension.
However, since signing the extension Aguero has been at odds with City manager Pep Guardiola over what kind of role is expected of him during the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss' reign in Manchester.
