Former Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has opened up about the prospect of seeing Lionel Messi play in the Argentine league somewhere down the line.
The Argentine has often spoken about his desire to retire at his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys and Mascherano has stated that anything could happen in the future and that the main factors for Messi to play in Argentine are his desire and the comfort of his family, which is something no-one else can influence.
"Anything can happen in the world of football and it depends on his desire to play in Argentina," Mascherano said, as per Daily Star.

"There's also the family aspect when he decides to live over here. These are personal issues and no one else can influence them.”
The former Argentina captain then admitted that should the Barcelona number 10 decide to come to Argen
"If he decides to come here in the future, it'd be a huge jump in quality for our league and the country."
The Blaugrana captain has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave the Catalans on a Bosman at the end of each season. Given that he is in his 30s now, there is a good chance that he could trigger that clause somewhere down the line – and that’s when he might decide to go back home.
