Valencia boss Marcelino has spoken up about Lionel Messi ahead of his team's clash against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday and has said that as a coach, not many in the footballing world know how to stop the Argentinean maestro.
Marcelino's side's only chance to win the Copa del Rey is if Messi decides to have an off-day and their only objective might just be limiting the legendary striker's damage, something which the Valencia coach knows is difficult.
As reported by Marca, while in his pre-match conference, Marcelino was asked about his strategies to stop Lionel Messi from doing what he does. He replied, "Most coaches do not know how [to stop Messi]."
Marcelino over de bekerfinale: "The key is giving Messi little to do in the game. The problem is that although he appears sparingly, his actions have a decisive influence."https://t.co/PD76kxzvXx— Stijn (@Alaphilippe_) May 24, 2019
He continued, "We'll do what we've always done [against him]. Try to get him to participate less in the key areas on the pitch. It may be the case that, as a human, he has an off day and we will have to take advantage."
Revealing how confident he and his team are ahead of this final, Marcelinho stated, "We may lack experience, but surely we have plenty of heart and, from that point of view, I believe we can match them"
Concluding as to what could decide the final, the Valencia coach concluded, "This season we have played in many vital matches [in the Europa League, Copa del Rey and the race for fourth spot in LaLiga Santander]. Barcelona have a lot of experience in these kinds of games. The 90 minutes will decide the champion and we will do our best to achieve that."
