Paris Saint-Germain winger Kylian Mbappe was forced to make a choice between his idol Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi in the Trophees UNFP (French Professional Footballers Association) awards ceremony in Paris.
The Raymond Kopa award winner made history in France by becoming the first player to win both the player of the year and young player of the year award for his performances in Ligue 1.
Mbappe has scored a total of 38 goals and assisted 17 times in a total of 42 appearances and has been a key presence and the talisman in the Paris team since Neymar went off injured.
His performances and dramatic improvement hasn't gone unnoticed, and has been praised by many, including French legend and Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

Mbappe was asked at the awards who he believed would claim football’s premier individual prize.
“Messi, despite the elimination (Barcelona were beaten by Liverpool in Champions League semi-final), it does not change anything,” he said.
“He is the number one. He has shown he was the best player this year. The year will take us up to December but I’m not worried about him, he is going to play until December.”
The World Cup winner is also in the running for the Ballon'dor and is expected to appear on the podium in December.
