Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has claimed that the team never gave up hope of winning the Bundesliga title, but was still happy that the team racked up their most points in three years.

Bayern Munich sealed the Bundesliga title when they won their final game of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt, so Dortmund's win over Borussia Monchengladbach was not enough as they fell short by two points.

Favre, whose team led the league for a major part of the season, expressed his disappointment over the fact that they did not end up winning the Bundesliga title.

"It is a disappointment. Sure, we did not give up hope," he said, according to Goal"At one stage it was 1-1 between Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt, then Bayern immediately scored to make it 2-1. We still believed in it, but most of all we focused on our game, on our task. We did not look much at the other teams' results.

"In the end it is clear that we are a little disappointed by the result of the championship, but we won our game. There was little missing to the title, but we are still very happy with our season. Nobody would have thought that we would get 76 points."

Dortmund will end the season without any trophies once again, but they would be kicking themselves for losing a six point lead they had at one point of the season, which would have ended Bayern's hegemony at the top of the Bundesliga table.
