Ajax captain and defender Matthijs de Ligt has insisted that he has not made any decision regarding where he would play in the new season, even as numerous top European clubs are looking to sign him up in the summer.

The Dutch international has been a revelation this season, helping Ajax do the double and also win their first Eredivisie title since 2014. The team also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus before falling to Tottenham Hotspur.

De Ligt has been linked with Barcelona, to which his current teammate Frenkie de Jong has already signed up for, but the player has refused to speculate on his future.

"This is not the time to talk about my future," he told Fox Sports, according to Goal. "I don't know if I will go with Frenkie de Jong [to Barcelona]. I still have to analyse things and see everything. We'll see what happens. I cannot say anything. We'll see at the end of summer. There is nothing yet."

Fellow defender Daley Blind was of the opinion that De Ligt was one of the best in the business, as was evident in his personality and his performances this season.

"Not only as a captain was he important to us," the defender said following Wednesday's win.

"It's also about his personality. He is a leading figure in the squad. He can guide the team in hard time.”

It remains to be seen if De Ligt will stay with Ajax or move to one of Europe’s powerhouses, especially considering the kind of performances the team has put this season.
