New Barcelona signing Frenkie de Jong has expressed his excitement at being able to link-up at the club with footballing legend Lionel Messi.
The Catalan giants paid 75 million euros for the midfielder, plus 11m euros in variables after he impressed during Ajax's remarkable Champions League run this season, which saw them reach the semi-finals.
As revealed by Marca, while speaking ahead of him joining Barcelona in the summer and training with Messi, De Jong stated, "I'm very excited to see [Lionel] Messi during training. I think I'm only going to pass the ball to him."
The 22-year-old midfielder then also went on to assure Barcelona fans that he won't crumble under the pressure of playing for such a big club.
"I'm not going to change how I am; it won't matter if I focus," he added. "I'm curious about how I'll perform there and I'm eager to learn from the best."
Under his stewardship in the midfield of Ajax, the Dutch club have secured a domestic double this season, something which also showed in the way they went about their UEFA Champions League campaign, reaching the semi-final in the process before being shockingly beaten by Tottenham Hotspur in the final seconds of the game.
Speaking about Ajax's campaign, De Jong, who also intends to bring his Ajax teammate Matthijs de Ligt at Barcelona, concluded, "We have a unique team for Dutch standards. We've had a lot of fun and we've had some amazing moments."
