Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is reported to be on top of Manchester United's list of goalkeeping targets should they lose out on Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea in the upcoming summer transfer window.

De Gea has around 15 months remaining on his existing deal at United and the club have made little to no progress in negotiations over handing him an extension.

It has been reported multiple times that in order to sign a new contract, De Gea has demanded equal or more pay than the club's highest earner Alexis Sanchez, who pockets an incredible £400,000-a-week.

However, Metro reveal that United have informed De Gea that offering Sanchez such wages was a mistake on their end and they will not be bowing down to the goalkeeper's demand for such a salary.

Furthermore, it is feared that De Gea will either leave United for a cut-price fee in the summer or will be released for free in 2020. This is the reason why the Old Trafford hierarchy has gone ahead and made a shortlist of goalkeepers and have included Jan Oblak near the top of their list.

The 26-year-old has kept an astonishing 115 clean sheets in 203 matches for Atletico and Los Rojiblancos have recently agreed new terms with Oblak, thus extending his contract until 2023 and inserting a new, higher release clause in his deal.

The report concludes by stating that Oblak, for his part, is open to a move to the Premier League and feels it is his likeliest destination given his association with Atletico is likely to block moves to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.
