4. Free-kick King

One area where Lionel Messi has really improved is free-kicks, with the Barcelona star excelling at deal ball situations this season. Messi has scored 10 goals via free-kicks so far this season, which is more than what teams like Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool among others have scored.

3. Combining with Suarez to overtake Real Madrid's goal tally

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have scored 26 and 17 goals in the La Liga respectively, with the duo scoring a combined 43 goals so far. In comparison, rivals Real Madrid have only netted 47 goals in the league this season, which gives them the opportunity to overtake their tally in the near future.

The 31-year-old is not only scoring goals for fun, but has also been central to Barcelona's overall play, registering 12 assists so far. He is number one on the list, with Chelsea's Eden Hazard behind him with 11 to his name.

Messi with 26 goals is on course to win a record sixth European Golden Shoe, with his closest challenger being Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe who has 24 to his name.  Fabio Quagliarella, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Aguero and Robert Lewandowski are also in the race for the honour, though if the Argentinian continues his form, there is no reason why he won't win it come the end of the season.
