Manchester United are reportedly said to be firm favourites to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Alderweireld has been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford for a long time and the Red Devils couldn’t convince Tottenham to sell the Belgian defender last summer. He is one of the best defenders in the league and Spurs are said to have finally given up on holding on to him.
The Mirror claim that Spurs have understood the fact that they need to capitalise as much as they can on Alderweireld's sale this summer, that too, for just £26m.
That discounted figure comes into play due to a clause in Alderweireld’s contract, which expires in 2020, while the defender is already said to have refused to pen a new deal with Spurs.
United are said to be favourites to land the Belgian despite firm interest from Juventus and FC Barcelona.
Alderweireld was the top defensive target for Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also pretty fond of the centre-back, which could see him approach Spurs with an offer for the Belgian.
United are already tipped to flex their financial arm in huge fashion this summer as the club aim to overhaul the squad in a bid to challenge for silverware next term.
Moreover, Solskjaer is also in the driver's seat to receive the position of Manchester United's permanent manager.
