The 2018/19 Premier League is over the halfway stage and some teams have staked their claim for the title while others are fighting to avoid relegation.
In all of that, the most important individual award of top goalscorer sometimes loses sheen but with the kind of competition for the honour, it will be the most keenly followed race ever.
The likes of Pierre Emerick-Aubaymeyang, Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah are continuing from where they left off last season on the goalscoring charts. Here are the top five contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot this season:
5. Sergio Aguero
Sergio Aguero has 10 goals so far in the campaign this season, and also has five assists to his name. He’s made 17 appearances in the league so far, missing just four of the 21 games Manchester City have played.
Aguero will be hoping to score more goals as the campaign goes on, especially considering the team is fighting for the title with Liverpool. His goal against the Reds changed the complexion of the title race as it gave City confidence to go on and defeat their rivals.
4. Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard has been the sole saviour of Chelsea this season, with the club’s strikers unable to find the back of the net with the same frequency.
Hazard has been involved in the most number of goals in the campaign so far this season, with 10 goals and 10 assists to his name. He ranks above Aguero due to the higher number of assists. If he continues in the same vein, he’ll be tough competition for the Golden Boot.
3. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been the principal goalscorer for Arsenal ever since he joined the club in January 2018. The man from Gabon has already scored 24 goals in 35 league matches, including 14 in the 2018/19 campaign.
His goals helped the Gunners stay unbeaten during a 20-game run earlier this season. Apart from the 14 goals, he has also helped provide three assists.
Aubameyang is a definite challenger for the Golden Boot and expect his name to be right there among the contenders at the end of the season.
2. Harry Kane
Harry Kane won the Golden Boot in England for the 2015/16 and 2016/16 campaigns, before Salah broke the spell and won the trophy in the 2017/18 season.
Kane has been ruthless in front of goal this season and his performances have a unique way of motivating his team.
He would still, want to get back to the top of the scoring charts, and currently has 14 goals and four assists, and will certainly get many more as the season progresses.
1. Mohamed Salah
Mohamed Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot last season for Liverpool, having had a phenomenal campaign in which he scored 32 goals.
After a slow start to the current season, the Egyptian has picked up his goalscoring form again, and has scored 14 goals and provided seven assists, including the penalty he scored in the game against Brighton. Those three assists helped him stay ahead of Kane.
He’ll be looking to score more to help his team stay at the top of the league table.
