Indian Super League side ATK have made two important additions to their squad, bringing in right-back Pritam Kotal and attacking midfielder Edu Garcia.

Kotal has been signed from fellow ISL team Delhi Dynamos, with the Kolkata outfit paying more than 15 lakh rupees to secure the transfer, as per Goal. The defender has signed a three-and-a-half year deal and will earn a little over 1 crore rupees per year as part of the agreement.

ATK are looking to challenge for the top four and currently sit four points off the last playoff spot. With Prabir Das struggling to stay fit and Aiborlang Khongjee and Ankit Mukherjee not providing the same level of play needed, they decided to move in and sign the Delhi right-back.

Kotal has previous experience of playing for ATK, having joined them on loan in the 2016 season. He was an important part of the team that went on to win the title. The right-back is currently with the Indian team in UAE for the Asian Cup that starts on January 5th.

In addition to a defender, the Kolkata side have signed attacking midfielder Edu Garcia from Chinese second division side Zhejiang Greentown FC. The Spaniard had earlier played for Bengaluru FC in the ISL but moved to the Chinese side during last season.

Garcia's ability to play on the wings as well as behind the striker makes him a key addition to an ATK side struggling for fluency due to an injury to key man Kalu Uche and other attacking players being out of form.

With the addition of Emiliano Alfaro, Pritam Kotal and now Edu Garcia, they have ensured that they can challenge for the playoff spots once the league resumes.

Speaking after the signings, as per Goal, manager Steve Coppell said, "The additions made to the squad are positive and we are quite excited to bring the new players on board. We hope that they can deliver and excite the fans through their performances on the pitch."

He continued, "We will begin training after the international break and assess how soon they can be integrated to our main squad. We look forward to a bright start in 2019."

ATK now have eight foreigners on their payroll and rules state that they are allowed to register only seven international players.

With Uche still out injured, it remains to be seen if Edu Garcia can be registered in the Nigerian's stead till his return from injury. They will have to release one foreigner eventually to balance their books.
