5 Stars to Have Played Under Both Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho

There is no doubt that Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho are two of the most successful managers in the history of the sport and are primary reasons why players join clubs where they are incharge.

The duo have won numerous trophies during their career and here we take a look at five top players to have played under both of them.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend, Cristiano Ronaldo was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2003 as a fresh faced teenager and helped him develop into the great player he is at present.

Ronaldo spent six glorious seasons at Old Trafford post which he moved to Real Madrid and played under Jose Mourinho for three years between 2010 and 2013.

2. Paul Pogba

The Frenchman moved to Old Trafford from Le Havre to join United's youth academy and was identified by Sir Alex as the future of the club with the Scot even giving him three chances to impress in 2011/12.

Pogba though moved to Juventus soon after and was subject of a world record transfer return to United in 2016. While he has shown his quality, his inconsistency has led to mutterings of a fall-out with current boss Jose Mourinho.

3. Wayne Rooney

Manchester United's all-time record goalscorer, Wayne Rooney was signed by Sir Alex and blossomed into one of the best strikers in the world under him. Even after the departure of Ferguson, he was an important member of the side under Mourinho until which the club decided to sell him to rivals Everton.

The 33-year-old currently plays for DC United in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

4. David de Gea

United's most important player over the last three years, David de Gea was brought to the club by Ferguson and despite a iffy start to life in England, soon established himself as a key player for the club.

He remains first-choice under Mourinho too, who will be hoping to ensure that he signs a new contract and remains at the club for the foreseeable future.

5. Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick moved to United from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006 and played an important but unassuming role in their success under Ferguson. He played for two years under Mourinho post which he moved into management and is currently part of the club's management staff.
