French radio journalist Eric Mamruth has sensationally revealed in an exclusive interview that as per the latest vote count, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are not even in the top three nominees for the famous Ballon d'Or accolade.
After Luka Modric claimed FIFA's 'The Best' award in September, it was a sign of change which now looks to continue as we head towards the date when the Ballon d'Or winner will be announced.
Mamruth's 'exclusive' suggests that Luka Modric leads the way in the race to win the Ballon d'Or after half of the total votes have been counted. Another statement he made was Raphael Varane was second in the highest vote count followed by Kylian Mbappe, something which will definitely affect Ronaldo and Messi fans.
Mamruth tweeted the below on November 10:
The above tweet translates to, "Exclusive #BallondOr: After counting half the votes, the head trio is as follows: 1) Modric 2) @raphaelvarane 3 @KMbappe. @xbarretfoot @RFIRadioFoot Info @RFIsports"
The fact that just half of the votes have been counted till now means that there is still a chance for others to catch up, however there is a popular opinion among all footballing experts that the performances made by nominee players at the World Cup in Russia should define the winner of the Ballon d'Or this year.
