5 Best Indian Players After Week 1 of the 2018/19 ISL Season

The Indian Super League this season has already been quite interesting with a lot of Indian footballers rising up to the occasion and performing to the best of their capabilities.

Picking the best out of some great talents is never easy but these five Indian players have done very well in the ISL in the initial couple of games....

5. Rowllin Borges - NorthEast United FC

With 129 successful passes made in two matches, Rowllin Borges marshalled NorthEast United's midfield this season in the ISL.

His link up play with the forwards as well as his ability to connect his team's defence and attack makes him one of the most impressive midfielders in this tournament.

In two games, Borges has scored one crucial goal for his team to go with his incredible passing accuracy of 88.37%. This added to six tackles, two interceptions, three clearances and three blocks make him one of the best Indian players so far this season.

4. Nishu Kumar - Bengaluru FC

With 11 tackles, two interceptions, eight clearances and four blocks in two games, Nishu Kumar has stood out from the rest in the Bengaluru's defense setup.

Nishu's tackling capability and defensive discipline make him one of the best defenders in the ISL this season.

These superb qualities coupled with his ability to score cracking goals like the one he did against Jamshedpur last week make him one of the top Indian performers in the ISL.

3. Dheeraj Singh - Kerala Blasters

India's top young goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem has already impressed David James with his talent. This led to the 18-year-old star to gain a starting spot in both of Kerala Blasters' ISL games this season.

In a total of 180 minutes, Dheeraj conceded just one goal and made six saves. He also kept one clean sheet and involved himself in Kerala's build up play with a passing percentage of 61.11%, quite impressive for a goalkeeper.

2. Jerry Mawihmingthanga - Jamshedpur FC

21-year-old product of DSK Shivajians' LFC Academy, Jerry Mawihmingthanga is in his second season with Jamshedpur FC.

After playing 16 games and scoring one goal as well as providing three assists last season, the midfielder has featured in two games for his team this season, playing a total of 150 minutes.

Jerry made 58 successful passes along with two crucial tackles, four clearances and one block as he helped Jamshedpur FC in their very good start to their Indian Super League campaign which sees them as one of the league leaders on the points table as of now.

1. Sandesh Jhingan - Kerala Blasters FC

Captain of Kerala Blasters, Sandesh Jhingan holds the accolade of the most number of matches played by an Indian footballer in the Indian Super League.

The 25-year-old two time ISL runner-up has been in mercurial form this season. Jhingan has made six tackles, two interceptions, 17 clearances and two crucial blocks in defence for Kerala Blasters. He is one of David James' most favoured players.
