Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi is one of the greatest, if not the greatest player in the history of the sport and now the 31-year-old is to become the subject of a new Cirque du Soleil show, who will perform on his life on a world tour in 2019.
The Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian group who in the past have performed shows based on musical legends like Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Michael Jackson and infact Messi will be the first sports personality that they will draw inspiration from.
The footballing superstar was excited by the news, claiming that the Cirque du Soleil is a favourite of his family.

"Cirque du Soleil is a family favourite of ours. It feels both crazy and incredible that Cirque du Soleil will create a show based on my life, my passion, my sport. I have no doubt this show will amaze people as their shows always do," Messi said on his Instagram page.
Cirque du Soleil for their part revealed that they are thrilled and excited to work on and link-up with a legend like Messi.
"The show will draw it's inspiration from the incredible talent and accomplishments of the football legend, who embodies the unique spirit and values of his sport."
The tour is expected to take place in 2019, though the exact dates and destination are yet to be announced.
