The Indian football team strolled to a comfortable 2-0 win against Maldives to book a place in the SAFF Suzuki Cup semi-final.

Maiden International goals from Nikhil Poojary (36th) and Manvir Singh (45th) helped India to finish on top of Group B on six points. The Blue Tigers will now face their historical rivals Pakistan on Wednesday in the final-four clash after almost five years.

The game started with India on the front foot and Stephen Constantine's team could have scored the opening goal in the 11th minute itself as Poojary missed a good chance from a headed attempt.

Lallianzuala Chhangte and Poojary were seen swapping wing positions on multiple occasions in the game which helped India to stretch the Maldivian defence.

After a decent spell of possession, India eventually took the lead in the 36th minute. Poojary played a one-two with Farukh which led to a fumble from the Maldivian defender. Nikhil  showed his striking instincts and pounced on the loose ball before slotting it past goalkeeper Mohamed Faisal.

Manvir Singh doubled India's lead before half-time. Anirudh Thapa managed to pull-off a gem of a pass dissecting Maldives' defence allowing Manvir to double India's advantage just before half-time.

The Indians held majority of the possession in the second half to keep the game under control. Maldives did show some good attacking intent and called Indian defenders and goalkeeper Vishal Kaith into action in the 73rd and 78th minute.

The Indian goalkeeper was then again tested a couple of times in the final minutes of the game but he managed to keep a clean sheet and led India to an impressive win. Constantine's Blue Tigers will now face Pakistan in the semi-final on Wednesday.
