Goals from wingers Ashique Kuruniyan and Lallianzuala Chhangte made sure the Blue Tigers confirmed all three points as they dominated the Lankans from start to finish.
Stephen Constantine's men started the game well, with good combination play between Farukh Choudhary and Ashique creating an opportunity for Sumeet Passi, but the striker was unable to get the final touch.
Soon after, a lovely cross from left-back Subhasish Bose found an unmarked Chhangte in the box but his attempt went just wide. Some time after that, Ashique sneaked through the right flank after getting past a couple of defenders and slotted the ball into the net.
The second half saw the Indian side dominate even further, creating a lot of chances with Chhangte and Farukh at the centre of all the action. The Mizoram lad then scored the second goal after some good work down the flank as his cross-cum-shot went into the net.
Despite being in complete control, India went on the attack on multiple occasions after the second goal, with Farukh rattling the woodwork and almost scoring a couple of times, while Manvir also went close.
Here's how social media reacted to India's win:

The commentator just keeps dozing off to sleep. He then mumbles something in his sleep. Then he has a nightmare and wakes up screaming. This process takes about 3-4 minutes, and it runs on repeat throughout the game... #indianfootball #INDvSRI #BackTheBlue #SAFFSuzukiCup2018— Chiranjit Ojha (@ChiranjitOjha) September 5, 2018
So many opportunities wasted. Yet India prevailed over srilanka 2-0 in the opener of #SAFFSuzukiCup2018— Sayan (@Tweets_by_Sayan) September 5, 2018
Scoreline should have been 5-0 but indian forwards were lacklustre in the box. Nonetheless positive to start with a win#INDvSRI #AsianDream #BackTheBlue
Ends 2-0. Good win IMO. We picked up momentum, played some decent football. Felt like it was too easy and that's mostly down to Sri Lanka being poor.— Ankush Sharma (@OkayAnkush) September 5, 2018
Can do better than we did today though. More directness, less wastefulness. Onto the next! 👏🇮🇳#IndianFootball #INDvSRI
