Former Real Madrid and current Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo, Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah have been nominated for the UEFA Champions League positional awards.

Los Blancos won their third consecutive Champions League last season and it is no surprise to see them dominate the list. Players were nominated by coaches of the 32 teams from last season's group stage and 55 journalists representing each of UEFA’s member nations.

Ronaldo, who won the award last year, finished top scorer last season with 15 goals, while Salah netted 10 times for new club Liverpool. It is surprising to see Messi's name there considering he only scored six goals and his team were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Roma.

In the goalkeeping department, Alisson is nominated for his brilliant performances in goal for Roma while Keylor Navas and Gianluigi Buffon make the list.

Real's midfield maestros Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, along with Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne, have been shortlisted in the midfield department. The Spanish giants are sure to claim the best defender award with Marcelo, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane all nominated.

The winners will be announced at the group stage draw for the upcoming season on the 30th of August.
