England manager Gareth Southgate is set to reveal his final 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup in Russia with reports confirming that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will not be selected and hence miss out on the chance to play in the greatest competition in the world.
Wilshere who broke into the international stage in 2010 at the age of 19 has struggled with injury and fitness issues throughout his career and it has continued this season too with the star missing a number of matches due to injuries.
As expected, news of Wilshere's omission has garnered a massive reaction on social media with a number of Arsenal fans not happy with Southgate's actions. Let's take a look at some of the best tweets.
Just can't see a logical explanation for Jack Wilshere not being in the England squad.— James Benge (@jamesbenge) May 15, 2018
Proved his match fitness in festive season (where he didn't miss a PL minute from December 13 to January 20).
Impressed in big games and played in deep position Southgate demanded.
Gareth Southgate is a weirdo. Man only likes shit players from shit teams. Imagine not taking England's best player in Jack Wilshere to the World Cup.— Deluded Wenger (@DeIudedWenger) May 15, 2018
Has Gareth Southgate made the right decision by leaving Jack Wilshere out of the squad?@SamWallaceTel would have taken him to the #WorldCup— BBC 5 live Sport (@5liveSport) May 15, 2018
"England don't have another player like him" 👀
Imagine actually leaving Jack Wilshere out of a World Cup squad.— Woz (@wozthegooner) May 15, 2018
He has more footballing ability in his little toe than the rest of the other CM’s combined.
Blokes a fucking embarrassment to our nation.
Reports that Jack Wilshere isn't going to Russia. Get ready for more Jake Livermore England fans and in the process, another group stage exit😂😂😂#threelions— Dwij (@_dwij18_) May 15, 2018
Wait, he is seriously taking Jake Livermore over Jack Wilshere?— Rich B (@richgooner1886) May 15, 2018
If you needed any more proof that Gareth Southgate is a fucking salad then that's it.
Southgate is a disgrace! He leaves the most technically gifted midfielder we have, Wilshere, who can break through the lines of a massed defence yet picks Jack fucking Livermore! Ridiculous manager— Jeremy Arnold (@JeremyArnold31) May 15, 2018
England not including Jack Wilshere in their WC squad sums up this country's football logic. Club status aside, Wilshere is arguably the best English midfielder they've got. I hear Delph is in? Lol.— ₩onder₩oman ● (@NonyeBiko) May 15, 2018
Well, we have Argentina and Croatia to worry about so that's their business.
I don’t wanna live in a world where Jordan Henderson is valued higher than Jack Wilshere— Justin Olivier Salhani (@JustinSalhani) May 15, 2018
Jack Wilshere hasn't had the best of seasons but he adds something to the England midfield no other English midfielder can provide. Picking Livermore over Jack is a shocking decision— Supratim (@Aubataryan) May 15, 2018
If Jack Wilshere is not going to the World Cup then Gareth Southgate should have gone to Specsavers, as he cannot see further than his nose.— Jeanette true gooner (@65douglas12) May 15, 2018
Can anybody anywhere think of a valid reason as to why England can afford to leave their only creative and positive central midfielder, Jack Wilshere, at home?— Darren Kenneford (@KENNERS_) May 15, 2018
How has Jack Wilshere NOT been picked for the World Cup? Fuck this shit I’m supporting France— Jake McFarlane (@JakeMcFarlane9) May 15, 2018
Right @England please explain to me how you came to the decision of @GarethSouthgate is your man for the job. Leaving @JackWilshere at home is an insult to the fans never mind the player himself. Going to be another failure of a @FIFAWorldCup with decisions like this. #lions— Martin Baird (@MartinBairdy) May 15, 2018
Jack Wilshere is England’s best CM how an earth can he not be going to the World Cup— kye (@kyefirman) May 15, 2018
How the f*ck is Lallana & Henderson make the England squad ahead of Jack Wilshere. What a spastic manager Southgate is. If they make it to R16 they really tried.— Mesut Özil (@WeAreOzil) May 15, 2018
Do you think that Southgate got it wrong in leaving Wilshere out of the squad? Only time will tell.
