Jose Mourinho's Manchester United have reportedly decided to aggressively pursue their interest in completing a move for Tottenham Hotspur's star Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld before the World Cup begins.

The Red Devils are supposed to have realised that they need to qualitatively do more in the transfer market in order to pose any possible threat to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City next season and thus have made the first move to sign Alderweireld.

Jose Mourinho is said to be hoping that this Belgian star fails to agree new terms with Tottenham, so United can make their move and seal the deal for as less as £25m.

As reported by the London Evening Standard, United are looking to resolve the issue for all parties involved in this possible transfer by willing to pay an inflated £40m for Alderweireld.

With regards to contingencies, the Red Devils are said to have shortlisted Ajax's young defender Matthijs de Ligt as a potential choice if they fail to land the Spurs star. Meanwhile it is expected that Mauricio Pochettino could be willing to sell Alderweireld in order to increase his transfer budget for the summer for new players.
