Brazil legend Pele has backed fellow countryman Neymar to lead the country to the World Cup title at Russia 2018, thereby earning redemption for their 7-1 humiliation at the hands of Germany in semifinals of the 2014 edition which was played in their home country.

Neymar missed the game due to injury and therefore did not suffer the humiliation inflicted, however as he is the leader of the squad, Pele believes that he has a chance to avenge the defeat for the country.

"He already has a second chance because, unfortunately, what happened in Brazil – disaster. The last World Cup in Brazil, he got the injury, and Brazil lost. I think this is a great, great opportunity for him to recover. I think he's a good player. Let's see if he can help Brazil [win] this World Cup," Pele said as quoted by Sportskeeda.

"Everybody knows Brazil have the best individual players in Europe. I think our coach, Tite, has had little time to set up the team. We have three months to set up the team. Tite is a very good coach, but he doesn't yet have the team working together. This will be a short time for them. But individual players, no doubt Brazil has a team to get to the final of the World Cup."

Pele has won the most World Cup titles in history, with three to his name and is considered by many to be best to ever grace the game.
