Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was left out of the Los Blancos squad by Zinedine Zidane for their game against Malaga. They eventually registered a 2-1 win over Malaga
nd there is one reason to why he took no part in the game.
According to Don Balon, Ronaldo was not dropped but chose to skip the game as he wanted to preserve himself for the semifinal clashes against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the first leg of which takes place later this month.

The reason behind this according to reports is that the Portuguese star knows that winning the Champions League will put him in prime position to beat Lionel Messi to the Ballon d'Or award.
Ronaldo will lead his country in the upcoming World Cup in Russia but knows that Portugal's chances of winning the ultimate prize in football are fairly small and hence believes that the Champions League is one way of ensuring that he is the favourite to win his sixth such award.
After a slow start to the season, the 33-year-old has hit prime form, scoring 41 goals in 38 games in all competitions so far, while Messi has 39 goals in 48 games in all competitions.
