Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly seems to have had enough of Red Devils' defensive duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones and will try to sell them in the summer transfer window with Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire being touted as replacements.

Despite a strong start to the season, Phil Jones has withered off, yet again whereas Chris Smalling is the target of angry Manchester United fans who just can't seem to wrap their heads around how and why Smalling gets the not over Victor Lindelof.

Mourinho is said to be very angry after United's loss to Newcastle which meant they are sinking into a much probable battle with Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal in order to maintain their second spot in the league table.

Even though, the current Manchester United team boasts one of the best defensive records this season, the defeat to Newcastle showed loopholes that need to be filled soon enough before everything comes crashing down on Mourinho.

Mourinho saw his fiercest rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool splashing out £75m and £57m respectively on centre-backs Virgil van Djik and Aymeric Laporte last month, and has reportedly told Ed Woodward they must start spending big on defenders, too.

The Red Devils have been linked with a swoop for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane for quite some time now whereas now a days they have been said to have tracked Leicester City star Harry Maguire.

Meanwhile, United fans will hope Eric Bailly is back from his injury by the end of this month with Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof also in line for first team calls. Jones and Smalling will most definitely be getting the axe.
