Match 68th of the Hero Indian Super League saw another convincing display from newcomers, Bengaluru FC. The hosts were the better side by some margin as they shipped two goal past FC Goa.
Here, we take a look at three things we learned from the exciting encounter.
3. Tougher Than Ever
This was meant to be FC Goa's shot at redemption. They had scored plenty of goals in the tournament, but keeping things tight at the back against a poaching Bengaluru side was always going to be an issue.
In the first half, we saw the intent from FC Goa but the opener from Bengaluru's Edu Garcia took the wind out of their sails. They struggled to get back in the second half and ended the game where they had started, at 6th position in the standings.
2. First Ones There
Bengaluru FC were the favourites coming into the tie. And in the end, it's safe to say they didn't disappoint. They got the opener through Edu Garcia and added another in the second half. The South-Indian side looked convincing in every department and were the deserved victors.
Now with 33 points from 15 matches, Bengaluru have become the first team to qualify for the knockouts. With the quality of players they have, seeing them in the next round shouldn't come as a surprise.
1. Man of the Match: Dimas Delgado
Dimas played a huge role in the Bengaluru FC midfield today, he was excellent in cutting down Goa’s lethal attacks in the midfield and always had an intimidating presence while going forward.
He was also the main man who out-muscled his opposition midfielders and had the quality to create opportunities for his team all by himself. As a reward for his efforts, Dimas also netted a beautiful goal for the hosts, which ultimately sealed the tie.
