The sensational Lionel Messi was once again the brightest star for Barcelona, last night, as they put five goals past a helpless Real Betis side. Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde, hailed the outstanding Argentine, claiming him to be the best player to ever grace the field.

After a disappointing Copa del Rey outing against Espanyol, the Catalan giants got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion. The Argentine contributed with a brace in Barcelona's 5-0 routing of Real Betis in La Liga.

Valverde said he knows how menacing Messi can be for the opposition coach, and was glad to finally be on the right side of the table.

"You have to enjoy him," Valverde said of Messi, quoted Goal

"We have been able to live his era. I have suffered because of him and I know what that is like. Now I can enjoy it. It is an event to watch him every day. He is the best player there is and there ever will be."

This win saw Barcelona move 11 points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid. Third-placed Valencia also couldn't capitalise on Atletico's slip-up and lost to Las Palmas. Defending champions Real Madrid are 19 points off the Blaugrana but have a game in hand to reduce the deficit.
