Ranked - Six Favourites to Win the Champions League This Season

The Champions League is the biggest competition in European football and is the highest level for clubs around Europe. Winning the Champions League is the major objective of every top European club and this season is no different. 

Real Madrid are the defending champions, having won the title for the last two seasons. However, they might find to difficult to win it for a third consecutive time, given the quality of the remaining sides. Here, we take a look at six of the most likely teams to win the Champions League this season.

6. Manchester City

In Pep Guardiola's second season at the club, Manchester City have been breaking all the records. Their exciting style of play and their goalscoring prowess has ensured that they are one of the favorites to win the Champions League. 

Guardiola will be desperate to win the competition, having failed to do so with Bayern Munich. City take on Swiss side FC Basel in the next round and will be looking to go all the way for the first time in their history. 

5. Juventus

The Old Lady have tremendous European pedigree, having reached the Champions League final twice in the last three years. Massimiliano Allegri's men will still be reeling from those defeats and would love to win the competition this time around, making it the perfect farewell present to retiring legend Gianluigi Buffon.

The defending Serie A champions take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Round of 16 and they have the know-how to navigate through the knockout stages.

4. Bayern Munich

Under Jupp Heynckes, Bayern have found their swagger back and are currently top of the Bundesliga table. They finished second in their Champions League group, behind Paris Saint-Germain, but have been handed a relatively easy tie against Besiktas in the next round.

The 2013 Champions League winners are a daunting proposition for any side in the knockout stages and as always, are one of the favorites for the title.

3. Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain have become a major player in Europe thanks to the big money additions of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. They finished top of their group but have been handed a tough tie against holders Real Madrid in the next round.

Unai Emery's men have one of the most dazzling attacks in Europe and would be relishing their encounter against Los Blancos in February.

2. Real Madrid

Despite their struggles this season, Real Madrid are still one of the best sides in the world and they always showcase their best in the knockout stages of the Champions League. 

They face a tough opposition in the next round in the form of PSG but on their day, Zinedine Zidane's side can beat anyone. Having won the competitions thrice in the last four seasons, Real Madrid are rightfully one of the favorites to win it again.

1. Barcelona

The departure of Neymar has actually been a good thing for Barcelona who have found their groove under Ernesto Valverde. The Catalans comfortably saw off Juventus to top their group and have been pitted against Chelsea in the next round.

With star man Lionel Messi firing on all cylinders, Barcelona are looking to recapture their former glories and will be looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2015.
