Tottenham Hotspur's Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has confirmed that his compatriot, Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is 'fine' and ready to play in in the Red Devils' showdown against Liverpool.

The £75m summer signing from Everton suffered a minor ankle issue during the international break which was enough to keep him out of Belgium's World Cup qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina. However, he played against Cyprus and scored in their 4-0 win.

Fellow countryman Vertonghen is sure that the 24-year-old striker is fit and raring to lineup against United's arch rivals Liverpool when the Premier League resumes this weekend.

Speaking to Goal, Vertonghen mentioned Lukaku and said, "The goal he got against Cyprus was so typical, a ball in behind and he brushed defenders off and smashed the ball into the net. I am sure he will be fine for Manchester United at the weekend."

Giving further updates on how he recovered from his ankle issue, the Spurs defender said, "He used the first week with us to get fit. He was injured, I spoke to him and his ankle wasn’t in good shape but he has used the time well to recover and he is back and fit again.”

This will come as a huge boost to Jose Mourinho and Manchester United as Lukaku has been firing on all cylinders this season have scored 11 goals in 10 games up until now. The Belgian hitman will now gear up for the trip to Anfield as United take on Liverpool in an epic Premier League clash.
