Everton forward Wayne Rooney is traveling with Ronald Koeman's team to Italy as they gear up for their first Europa League match against Serie A outfit Atalanta.

This comes after a source close to the player revealed that Rooney had not asked for 'sympathetic' leave, also mentioning "nor would any such request ever be made". England's all time top goalscorer was recently charged with drink driving and will be appearing in court on September 18.

Rooney, who recently announced his retirement from international football in August move to Everton in this summer's transfer window after spending 13 years at Manchester United.

Rooney has kicked off his second spell at Everton in style as he has scored two goals for the Merseysiders in their first four games of the new domestic season and is looking in good form as fixtures are starting to pile up.

With reports of his troubled relationship with wife Coleen amid the drink-driving issue being in the news recently, Rooney will look to move out of this situation by performing well for Everton this season.
