Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta believes Andres Iniesta will remain a Barcelona player next season amid interest from the Serie A side. The Spaniard's contract with the Catalan giants expires at the end of the season with Iniesta not giving any indications that he will pen a new deal.
This lead to rumours of a Bosman move to Juventus, with the Italian side keen admirers of Iniesta, however Marotta has played down such links, believing that the midfield maestro will stay at the Nou Camp for the near future.
"He’s a great champion, but he has a contract with Barcelona, which he’ll surely extend. He’s on the best of terms with his club’s board and he’s a very important player for them, so I think he’ll stay at Barcelona", Marotta said, as quoted by Football Italia.
The 33-year-old was in brilliant form against Juventus in their UEFA Champions League group game last night, earning plaudits from both the fans and the pundits over his performance. Iniesta did not have the best of times last season, mainly due to a recurrence of a number of injuries, but now looks like he is back to full fitness and is an extremely important player for the Catalan giants.
The Barcelona board are confident that he will stay with them but as seen by Neymar's shock transfer to Paris Saint-Germain it is very difficult to be certain of a player's intentions in the current scenario.
