The champions begin their title defence with a home game against minnows Burnley. With Diego Costa having fallen down the pecking order and with midfield mainstays Eden Hazard and Pedro and new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko out of contention with injuries, Antonio Conte will have a lot of permutation and combination to do ahead of the season opener.
Below, we present to you the expected line up for the Blues tonight.
Arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, Thibaut Courtois won the Golden Glove last season and will want to continue the same form this season.
Antonio Rudiger could make his debut for the Blues tonight alongside the experienced duo of Cahill and David Luiz. Up against a side not particularly known for its attacking bent of mind, a three man defence would suffice, with Alonso and Azpilicueta regularly falling back. Hope they don't miss Nemanja Matic much though.
Missing Eden Hazard, Pedro, Bakayoko and Moses, Conte will have to rely on Fabregas to pull the strings in the midfield ahead of Kante who will have a lot of work to do manning the entire length of the midfield. Azpilicueta and Alonso could be used as wing-backs, depending on the situation. Not the best of midfields I admit.
Alvaro Morata is likely to start in the centre with Michy Batshuayi and Willian on either side. Not a striker naturally, Willian's main job tonight will be that of a provider with Batshauyi and Morata to take care of the finishing. Though not the most lethal attack line, the three could prove to be menace for Burnley's defenders.
