José Mourinho says Zlatan Ibrahimovic could sign a new deal at #MUFC. Wouldn't comment on Matic, just that transfer business is 50% complete— Simon Peach (@SimonPeach) July 14, 2017
Mourinho said on the matter: "It's possible. It's open. Of course, we wanted to be honest and open for him to make a decision in case his desire was to leave.
"There was not a new contract, but there was a space of time for everybody to think, feel and decide. From his point of view, he made the decision of wanting to play football still at the highest level. He didn't want to hide behind such an amazing injury.
Jose on Zlatan: "He was not happy with the way he finished the season" #mufc— Full Time DEVILS (@FullTimeDEVILS) July 14, 2017
"It would be easy to hide behind it and stop and go to a different level of football. He did not want that. He made the challenge for himself to keep playing at the highest level.
"We opened our door for him to recover with us and at the same time let's make a decision that makes us all happy. If that is for him to stay and for us to wait, let's say until December maybe because I don't think before December he can get back to competitive football, why not wait for a player who gave us so much?
"We are exchanging ideas and it's with Mr (Ed) Woodward and Zlatan's agent, but the important thing is the final decision is the best for the player."
It is not just LA Galaxy who want him in America, with new franchise Los Angeles FC looking to sign Ibrahimovic - or former Red Devils star Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen, who see his form and popularity in LA due to his Mexican background as a key marketing tool for the newly-created club.
