Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has encouraged the Premier League club to do 'whatever it takes' to sign Ivan Perisic as he believes the Croatian has the capability to open up opposition defenses with his immaculate passing capabilities.

The Red Devils are still negotiating a possible deal with Inter Milan for the player but have not been able to arrive at a consensus with regards to the transfer fee. It is being said that United are willing to offer Inter £35m for the 28-year-old, whereas the Italian side are sticking to their £48m asking price for the winger.

With the transfer eventually coming to a standstill, Meulensteen has backed United to complete the move sooner, rather than later.

In an interview with 888sport, Meulensteen said, "Perisic has good experience and pace and could come in and create things. He is comfortable on the ball, can beat a man and has a fantastic pass."

The former United coach then went on to stress the importance of having a player with Perisic's vision in the team. "It’s important that United have a man who can open up defences with one pass and he has that. He can offer them another level of a goal threat.”, said the 53 year old Dutch.

Additionally, Meulensteen also gave his opinion about United targets, Alvaro Morata and Andrea Belotti. "Morata is a good striker, he’s mobile, agile, and creates chances. The same can be said of Belotti but both would be coming from abroad and would have to adapt to the Premier League which we all know is difficult."
