It's not a regular occurrence to see Manchester United fans fret and worry over missing out on transfer targets. After all, who wouldn't want to join one of the most successful clubs in the world?
The Red Devils' pursuit of Alvaro Morata, for instance, seems to be edging towards completion with the Real Madrid striker reportedly set to arrive in England to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed £65m switch to the Premier League.
However, some United fans have taken to social media in light of a recent development concerning one of their former stars - Cristiano Ronaldo - and are now sweating over Real pulling the plug on Morata's potential move to Old Trafford.
Why? Well, according to varying reports, Ronaldo wants out of Real after he was charged with tax evasion by the Spanish authorities, and sources close to the BBC appear to have lent weight to this reveal having some legs to it.
With the 32-year-old superstar seemingly bound for the exit door, Los Blancos may now reconsider letting Morata go this summer - a decision that would end his possible move to United and leave the club's fanbase filled with rage.
Don't believe us? Just take a look at some of these tweets of United supporters losing their minds over such a scenario:
Maybe Real Madrid have known all along about Cristiano Ronaldo which is why they are so keen to hold on to Alvaro Morata? pic.twitter.com/si56TTCxV7— The Peoples Person (@PeoplesPerson_) June 16, 2017
Do you think Madrid would get rid of Morata and Ronaldo in the same window? I think it's highly unlikely #mufc— David Gilland (@davidgilland90) June 16, 2017
I can't see both Morata and Ronaldo leaving real this summer. If Ronaldo wants to leave he will go before morata .— BVUnited (@bharatvaryani) June 16, 2017
IF,Ronaldo leaves and it's a BIG if, then MORATA will stay.— Matt (@MatMatt5558) June 16, 2017
OK call me cynical, morata wants game time, Madrid don't want to sell him to us, Ronaldo wants out. Morata has rethink. Madrid's new ploy— devilville (@MUFColdskool) June 16, 2017
They are fair concerns to have, especially when United fans have all-but-decided that Morata's signing would be a significant coup for them.
The Europa League winners are desperate for a new number nine after allowing the crocked Zlatan Ibrahimovic to leave on a free transfer and, if Morata's transfer falls through, manager Jose Mourinho would have to turn his attentions to other targets in a bid to add more firepower to his squad.
We can just see United fans all collectively praying that Ronaldo - ironically one of their darlings - will stay at the Bernabeu and allow Morata to join them!
