The Indian U-17 football team defeated Italy U-17 2-0 to register a famous win on their exposure tour to Europe ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in October.

Playing in Arezzo, Italy, the Indian team scored once in each half to set up a win that would be remembered for a long time to come.

The Indians were the better team throughout the match and took the lead through Abhijit Sarkar in the 31st minute. Despite their dominance, the away side could not take advantage of their chances as they maintained their lead.

Another golden chance was then squandered by Aniket Jadhav in the 59th minute as he did very well to round the goalkeeper, but then failed to score.

The hosts were finding it tough to handle the Indian team's waves of attacks, but continued gamely as the margin was still only one goal.

Rahul Praveen inexplicably managed to somehow contrive to waste a chance when he was just five yards out as he saw the Italian goalkeeper pull off a great save.

The Indian U-17 side finally doubled their lead in the 80h minute as Rahul made no mistake this time around, scoring from a shot taken from just inside the box to make it 2-0.

This result comes just a week after the Indian side could only manage a 1-1 draw against a Paris-based football club.

The Italians could not qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup that will be played across six cities in India later this year in October from the 6th to the 28th.

As the Indian team continue their tour, this win will no doubt give them a huge boost as they prepare for the World Cup.
