Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been forced to completely sit out Manchester United's EFL Cup semi-final clash with Hull City due to illness, according to the club.

Rumours began to swirl on social media on Tuesday afternoon after reports emerged claiming that the Swedish striker had missed the pre-match meet-up with the squad.

Ibrahimovic has been in excellent form for Jose Mourinho's side recently, scoring 13 goals in 19 appearances this season following his move from Paris Saint-Germain.

Marcus Rashford has been given another chance to impress as he starts up front for United tonight, while Wayne Rooney has the chance to become the club's outright all-time leading goalscorer after equalling Sir Bobby Charlton's record against Reading on Saturday.

In all, Mourinho has made seven changes from the side that beat Reading at Old Trafford to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup, with David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Matteo Darmian, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all returning.

Michael Carrick drops to the bench while there is no starting berth for Anthony Martial as the Portuguese coach keeps one eye on Sunday's huge Premier League showdown with Liverpool.

Starting lineup: De Gea; Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Darmian; Herrera, Pogba; Mata, Rooney, Mkhitaryan; Rashford.

Subs: Romero, Blind, Fosu-Mensah, Carrick, Fellaini, Martial.
