The second day of the I-League saw three matches played and while it did not produce the goal fest that everybody expected, the matches were close and tightly fought encounters. Let's take a look at the results from the Sunday's round of matches.
3. Chennai City 0-0 Minerva FC
Chennai City and Minerva Punjab FC played out a goalless draw in the first game of the day at the Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium. It was the home side who looked more dangerous throughout the game, but the lack of end product hurt their chances of securing all three points in the end.
Chennai coach Robin Charles Raja would be disappointed with the lack of cutting edge shown by his team while Minerva would need to put in better displays especially in midfield and upfront if they are to make a dash for the title this season.
2. Mohun Bagan 1-0 Churchill Brothers
Indian footballing giants and runners-up from last season, Mohun Bagan kick started their campaign in the best possible fashion, beating Churchill Brothers 1-0. Balwant Singh was the star of the show for the hosts, scoring against his former team via a header in the
Despite being reduced to 10-men, Bagan held on repelling a number of attacks from Churchill who grew into the game as the match went on. Bagan will want to ensure that they remain level with defending champions Bengaluru FC as the season progresses.
1. Mumbai FC 1-0 DSK Shivajians
Thoi Singh was the star of the show for Mumbai FC as his wonder strike helped them beat rivals DSK Shivajians at the Cooperage ground. In what was a closely fought affair between the two rivals, new recruit Singh was the man who made the difference in the 21st minute.
The Manipuri latching on to a loose ball and beating the keeper with a shot from outside the box. DSK did try to stage a comeback but in the end Mumbai held on to secure an important win and register three points on the table.
