Huddersfield Town are believed to be weighing up a loan deal for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, according to the Star, as the Englishman looks to overcome his injury nightmare with the Reds.

The 19-year-old joined Liverpool last year, having spent his first season in professional football with Charlton Athletic. He made his debut under Brendan Rodgers' management before succumbing to a long term knee injury that ruled him out for the majority of last season.

The left back's return to the first team was again cut short by a further fitness problem, this time an achillies injury, which meant he was unable to start the new season.

Now having finally recovered, the young defender finds himself at the back of the queue and could struggle to force his way back into Jurgen Klopp's team, especially considering their recent form.

With this in mind, Championship team Huddersfield are keeping tabs on the player and are understood to be considering a loan offer for him in the January transfer window.

The Terriers have links with Liverpool as boss David Wagner is believed to be close friends with Jurgen Klopp, having spent time working together at their old club Borussia Dortmund.

Huddersfield have been the surprise package this season in the Championship and currently sit in fourth place, just three points off of leaders Newcastle United.

The loan deal could suit all parties, as Wagner will want to have all the help he can get to keep his side in the promotion race, whilst Liverpool will want young Gomez to rediscover both his fitness and form.
