Norwich City are preparing to poach Liverpool youngster Sergi Canos from fellow Championship side Bristol City, according to the Bristol Post.

It is understood Lee Johnson's side have lined up a £2.5m bid for the Spaniard to bolster their midfield ranks but Norwich, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, are preparing to scupper the deal with their own 11th-hour bid for the talented 19-year-old.

Canos had been on loan at Championship side Brentford last season where he endured a mixed campaign; making 38 appearances in the league, but 20 of those came from the bench. He still managed to score seven goals and lay on four assists in the meantime.

The Bees are understood to be interested in bringing him back, but both Norwich and Bristol City are the front-runners for the youngster's signature. Both teams have been encouraged to make the moves following the uncertainty surrounding Canos' future at Anfield.

The midfielder is yet to a sign a new deal for the Reds with reports suggesting that his weekly wage demands have caused frictions. Talks apparently stalled between the two parties following Canos' demand for £10k a week, but Liverpool chiefs are unwilling to offer those terms.

Norwich's interest is thought to have stemmed from the sale of Nathan Redmond to Southampton for £11m with the Canaries keen to sign a replacement for the winger.

Should Norwich or Bristol successfully land Canos, it is understood that Liverpool will negotiate a deal that would include a buy-back clause in the Spaniard's contract.

The 19-year-old made an appearance for Jurgen Klopp when he came on as a substitute against West Brom in the 1-1 draw in May.
